Burrator Class

Carol Service and Crib Blessings

Pupils from Venford, Fernworthy and Burrator all took part in our annual Carol Service in Buckfast Abbey Church. Each class also led a special Crib Blessing in each of the parish churches during December. Our Art Club kindly made sheep and angels to decorate the cribs with.

St Nicholas Day

Burrator Class took part in St Nicholas Day, along with a number of other schools at Buckfast Abbey. The day involved taking part in several workshops, in which gifts were made.  Each pupil also made a promise to share at least one of the gifts they produced with someone else. The activities included cooking, sewing and lantern making. Finally, the day ended with a special service in Buckfast Abbey church which all the different school groups took part in.

Buddy Food Hygiene Training

Pupils in Year 5 and 6 who carry out Buddy duties have been given Food Hygiene training, similar to the training that adults have when they are involved with serving or preparing food. Mark Bradley from The Grange Restaurant, came into St Mary’s to carry out the training.  He will return later in the year, to monitor how well the children are implementing the training in the dinner hall at lunchtimes.

Apple Day

To celebrate the harvest of apples from our school orchard, St Mary’s held an Apple Day where children took part in apple tasting activities and used an apple press to produce their own apple juice. Each class also produced printed artwork around the theme of apples.

Community Dentist

The community dentist visited St Mary’s to teach pupils about how to care for their teeth and to help to protect them from decay. The disclosure tablets which were used by some pupils, enabled plaque to be revealed on their teeth and in turn, helped pupils to ensure that this was removed during brushing.
