Burrator Class

Torbay and Devon Civic Award

Congratulations to those pupils in Year 6 who have worked hard this year to gain their Torbay and Devon Civic Award. They were awarded their certificates at a ceremony held at St Cuthbert Mayne School in Torquay.   Click on the link below to find out more about how the pupils achieved the award: Torbay and Devon Civic Award.

Mud Kitchen

Year 5 have been working with Claudia, Anna and Alison from the Abbey Education Centre to design and re-build our mud kitchen in the Woodland Area. This has taken a lot of hard work, but the area looks fantastic now and has been enjoyed by all of the classes.  The area had an official opening, to celebrate all of the hard work that has taken place.

First Aid Skills

Burrator pupils took part in some first aid training with Ian Hutchings, as part of their activities week.  During the day the children learnt basic first aid skills including how to deal with someone who has collapsed, is choking or needs bandaging.

Learning afternoons

Fernworthy, Burrator and Venford Classes have all prepared learning afternoons. The children shared their learning through teaching others about what they have recently learnt. Fernworthy ran a Roman afternoon, where they demonstrated a Roman battle march and even had also had special Roman food to try! Venford had a special afternoon about their ‘It’s F..f..freezing’ topic and pupils worked together as ‘teams’ of experts.  In Burrator, pupils talked to parents and carers from across the school about maths, explaining how it is taught and what children are expected to know in different year groups. There was also the chance for the adults to try out some SATs questions!

French café

Burrator Class used their language skills to good use by ordering food from a café – using their  French vocabulary!  The afternoon was a great success and some pupils were even confident enough to have their conversations recorded.
