French
Burrator class brought French lessons to life with their work on food. Pupils made their own ‘crepes’ and practiced their French skills by placing orders for their food.
Marine Biologist for a day
Aspiring scientists from Burrator Class were invited to the Royal Citadel laboratory at the Plymouth Citadel. Four pupils took part in a range of activities similar to those carried out by Marine Biologists at the laboratories. Activities included identifying plankton, using the library, fish dissection and learning about the importance of sustainable fishing methods.
Science Week
As part of science week, some pupils from Burrator came to the Marine Biology Day at Citadel Laboratory in Plymouth.
St Nicholas Day 2016
Burrator Class pupils were invited to this annual event, along with lots of pupils from other local primary schools. The day is based around a pledge made by each of the children that encourages them to give away some of the Christmas gifts that they make in workshops during the day. Extreme Morning
Pupils in Burrator launched their ‘Extreme Weather’ topic with some extreme conditions of their own – by creating shelter and warmth in our school woodland area. The children had to think carefully about how to keep themselves safe and warm in challenging weather conditions.

Burrator class have been busy creating coasters in a mosaic workshop at the Abbey Education Centre. Science lessons have focussed on investigative skills this term looking at a range of things including buoyancy.
Spring Term 2016
In connection with their second world war topic, in English lessons pupils have looked at Michael Morpurgo’s book ‘Where My Wellies Take Me’. As part of this work the children went on their own local walk and wrote about their experiences. Pupils have carried out a number of science experiments this term, including those relating to forensic science techniques used to discover a smarties thief and chromatography techniques.
