Children in Need 2017
St Mary’s supported Children In Need this year by ‘going spotty’ and dressing up in ‘mufti’. We also sold Pudsey headbands and key rings and altogether raised an amazing £176 for the charity! We had so much fun on the day and even had spotty cakes for our dessert at lunchtime.
Meldon’s Circus Topic
We have been learning about the circus as part of our colour topic. The children made juggling balls from playdough, put on a show in the role play circus and even performed some acrobatic tricks outside!
Local PCSO visits St Mary’s
Local PCSO, James Yates, visited St Mary’s and talked to the children in Meldon Class to tell them about how the police help the local community.
Fire Engine Visit
To fit in with Meldon’s topic, ‘People who help us’, one of our parents (Mr Watkin) very kindly arranged for a real fire engine to visit St Mary’s which created lots of excitement!
African Storytelling
St Mary’s welcomed Abimbola Alao to school. She started the day by telling some stories to the whole school, which included lots of actions and phrases that pupils really enjoyed joining it with!
Big Toddle for Barnados
Pupils in Meldon Class, along with children and parents from St Mary’s Little Lambs, our toddler group, completed a charity walk. All of the children dressed up in brightly coloured clothes and ‘toddled’ around the outside of the school field to raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s. Pirate Day
Pupils in Meldon and Venford class shared a ‘pirate day’ to celebrate their curriculum topics which both linked to the sea. The children came dressed as pirates and the morning was spent carrying out lots of pirate related activities. In the afternoon, pupils enjoyed a pirate party, treasure hunt and enjoyed eating a pirate ‘feast’.
Beep Beep Day
In conjunction with Brake, the road safety charity, pupils at St Mary’s took part in a special Beep Beep! Day to raise an awareness of road safety. Pupils across the school took part in lots of different activities to teach them about the road safety.
