Bellever Shetland Ponies

St Mary’s has been visited by two Shetland ponies, called Milly Magic and Elegant Grace. Pupils learned how to care for the ponies and even had the opportunity to carry out some grooming.  Some people learnt how to lead the ponies using reins.  We are hoping that the ponies will come back to St Mary’s again next term. Thank you to Sally and David who kindly brought the ponies to St Mary’s (and to Poppy and Honey-rose who helped with the ponies during the morning).

Fairtrade Fortnight

To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, pupils organised a Fairtrade Sale selling fairtrade snacks and using fairtrade products to bake cakes.

Newton Abbot and District Society of Arts (NADSA)

NADSA helped to organise a visit by musicians from Divertimento Quartet. Four musicians came into school to talk about being a professional musician and also their instruments: flutes, violins and cellos. When they played together, they created a beautiful sound! Fernworthy Class and Burrator Class also got the opportunity to sing some songs that they have been learning in music lessons and were accompanied by the professional musicians. These are some comments from the children about the session:

‘We loved conducting, hearing the music go faster and faster.’

‘They really inspired me to practise music so I can play as well as they can for people to enjoy.’

‘We loved the fact that we were involved and they talked to us about their instruments.’

‘ We enjoyed listening and learning about the instruments too – some of them were over 100 years old!’

Easter Bonnet Parade

Our pupils took part in the annual Easter Bonnet parade. Everyone had the chance to design and make their own Easter hat (or bonnet) which were shown in our assembly. Lots of parents and grandparents also came to see the different designs. This year, Mel and Coach Ben judged the competition and the winners were Maria, Freddie, Priya and Jess. The judges commented that the standard had been very high this year and they had found it difficult to select just four hats from all of those made by the children.

Christmas Lunch

Once again this year, staff at St Cuthbert’s Conference Centre prepared a lovely Christmas meal for the staff, families and pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
