Pupils were visited by Suzy, from DASH and Buckfastleigh Sharing who wanted to promote a Biscuit Club in the local area. As part of the First World War remembrance, each pupil created their own poppy, recording their own prayers and thoughts about the events of the First World War and thinking about those still affected by war today.
The whole school attended a Macmillan Coffee morning event to raise money for the charity. Prefects and members of the school council helped to run the event with refreshments and a cake sale.
Pupils were visited by a guide dog and their owner, to find out more about how someone with visual impairment or blindness uses a Guide Dog to lead a full and active life. Pupils enjoyed asking questions about how guide dogs are trained and also what it is like to own a guide dog. St… Read more »
As part of the Respect Week held at school, pupils participated in Dementia Awareness by learning about the condition and raising awareness about how to support people suffering from dementia.
Pupils at St Mary’s are participating in the Teignbridge council initiative called Cop Cards. Local community police officer, Tamsin Cambell-Mosely visited the children to launch the sticker albums. The school councillors designed and organised the school’s obstacle course which was completed by all pupils and some staff, in return for a donation to raise money for Sports Relief and Rowcroft Hospice, charities selected by the school council this year. All pupils took part in a Carol Service with readings, carols and a tableau of the nativity in Buckfast Abbey. The pupils had learnt a number of carols for the service, have a listen to how beautifully the children sounded in the Abbey.
Pupils from St Mary’s took part in the Remembrance Day parade in Bovey Tracey as part of 1st Heathfield St Catherine’s Scout Group.
