Sport Relief
St Mary’s school council designed and organised a special Sport Relief fundraiser this year to raise money for the charity. Pupils dressed up in sportswear for the occasion and took part in a number of sporty activities on the school field.
Chinese New Year
Pupils from Reception year and toddlers from St Mary’s Little Lambs joined together to celebrate Chinese New Year. As it is the year of the monkey, there were a number of monkey themed crafts for pupils to carry out. The session finished with a traditional dragon dance!
Easter Bonnet Parade
Every pupil at St Mary’s made an Easter bonnet this year, even our toddler group, St Mary’s Little Lambs, were invited to create their own Easter bonnet. Fairtrade Fortnight
Following the success of the Traidcraft sales at the school’s healthy tuck shop, members of the school council and prefects asked if they could organise a fairtrade sale and refreshments afternoon for parents during Fairtrade Fortnight. Carol Singing – St Mary’s Choir
St Mary’s choir were invited to sing at a number of community events this year including a community Christmas Lunch at St Cuthbert’s conference centre, Buckfastleigh Town Christmas Fair, our own Christmas Extravaganza and at local nursing homes.
Rotary Club Concert
The choir once again starred in the Rotary Club concert this year at St Luke’s church in Buckfastleigh. Pupils performed some of the carols learnt for the Christmas Cantata and also for the Radio Devon Star for Christmas competition which pupils entered recently. Operation Christmas Child 2015
This year around 50 boxes were sent to Operation Christmas Child, all of which are filled with gifts for children around the world who otherwise wouldn’t receive a present this Christmas. Our school council helped to check the boxes and to fill some spare boxes with additional gifts that had been donated.
Children in Need 2015
Pupils decided this year to raise money for Children in Need by dressing up as their favourite characters, including a number of superheroes. Children also bought keyrings and wristbands to help raise money for the charity.
Plymouth CAST Art Exhibition
St Mary’s is part of a multi academy trust known as Plymouth CAST.
