Dainton Tri-Golf
Fernworthy Class were invited to Dainton Golf Club to a Tri-Golf festival organised in conjunction with South Dartmoor Sports Partnership. The pupils were able to refine some of their golf skills during the afternoon and learnt new skills from the staff and young leaders at the festival.
Visit to Dawlish Warren
Venford Class went to Dawlish Warren to find out some more about coastal environments and mini-beasts.
Pirate Day
Venford Class have been practising their pirate skills through their project work in class. This cross-curricular topic culminated in a pirate scavenger hunt in the woods.
Guide Dog visit
Pupils were visited by a guide dog and their owner, to find out more about how someone with visual impairment or blindness uses a Guide Dog to lead a full and active life. Pupils enjoyed asking questions about how guide dogs are trained and also what it is like to own a guide dog. St… Read more »
Dementia Awareness Week
As part of the Respect Week held at school, pupils participated in Dementia Awareness by learning about the condition and raising awareness about how to support people suffering from dementia.
Devon County Show 2014
Our gardening club has again been busy this year, preparing an entry for the Devon County Show. This year, St Mary’s had based its design on celebrating 25 years of the Devon County Show.
Field Kitchen
Venford and Fernworthy Classes enjoyed cooking outside, as they took part in a ‘Field Kitchen’ day with Mark Reeves. Children cooked their own food using methods that they might use if they were camping outside. The children enjoyed their cooking lesson with a difference – the chocolate cakes were particularly successful!
Woodland Trust Award
Congratulations to all the pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, who have been awarded the Bronze Level Award as a Green Tree School in recognition of what it has done to improve the school environment.
Woodland sessions
Pupils throughout the school have begun weekly outdoor education sessions again this term, making good use of our woodland area at St Mary’s, the field and also the woodland walk that pupils helped to establish last year. Kite flying
As part of the post SATs celebrations, pupils from Burrator class were invited to the Abbey Education Department to participate in an art workshop, to design and make their own kites. All the pupils enjoyed flying the kites in the beautiful grounds of Buckfast Abbey.
