Tennis
Pupils across the school took part in tennis sessions with Coach Ben and Key Stage Two took part in intra-school matches.
Buddy Food Hygiene Training
Pupils in Year 5 and 6 who carry out Buddy duties have been given Food Hygiene training, similar to the training that adults have when they are involved with serving or preparing food. Anti-Bullying Week
Pupils took part in the special assembly to talk about National Anti-Bullying week. The theme for this year was ‘Small Change. Big Difference.’ Pupils had chance to discuss the theme as part of their PSHE lessons in class and reviewed the Children’s Anti-Bullying Policy. Remembrance
Pupils laid a wreath on Remembrance Sunday as part of the parade through Buckfastleigh. In school on Armistice Day, members of the Scouting Association wore their uniforms as a mark of respect and the art club made poppies to create a focal point for the School Assembly and the two minutes silence.
Cultural Champions’ Visit
As part of the multi-faith week each class was visited by Wesam, a local Muslim, who came into school to talk about her faith and to explain how she worships. Each class took part in a practical workshop and had the chance to ask her questions about her Islamic faith.
Outdoor Explorers’ Club
The outdoor learning group participated in a variety of activities this term, which included fire lighting and cookery using the fire pit.
Alpaca Therapy
Some pupils took part in ‘alpaca therapy’ workshops. The session involved walking, grooming and feeding the alpacas, who were very well behaved and seemed to enjoy the attention.
Wildlife Champions Project
This year the School Council are participating in the Devon Wildlife Champions scheme, which is organised by the Devon Wildlife Trust. Harvest
This year’s harvest celebration raised money for CAFOD’s ‘Wear it Bright’ campaign and collected produce for the local foodbank.
Apple Day
To celebrate the harvest of apples from our school orchard, St Mary’s held an Apple Day where children took part in apple tasting activities and used an apple press to produce their own apple juice. Each class also produced printed artwork around the theme of apples.
