Prayer Space at Buckfast Abbey
Year 6 pupils took part in a Leavers’ Mass and Prayer Space in Plymouth Cathedral. Pupils at St Mary’s then held replicated this Prayer Space in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Buckfast Abbey. Parliamentary visit
Pupils in Fernworthy and Burrator Class enjoyed hearing from a visiting speaker , Ros Birch, who is Parliament’s Education Outreach Officer for the South West. Windows of Wonder
As part of Fernworthy Class’ topic about light, and their RE topic about Pentecost, pupils went on Buckfast Abbey’s Windows of Wonder tour and workshop with the Education Department. Easter
Children at St Mary’s have looked at the Easter story as part of their RE work, by writing prayers and reflecting on the Easter message. Some classes built Easter gardens to remind them of Jesus’ resurrection.
Sport Relief
St Mary’s school council designed and organised a special Sport Relief fundraiser this year to raise money for the charity. Pupils dressed up in sportswear for the occasion and took part in a number of sporty activities on the school field.
Chinese New Year
Pupils from Reception year and toddlers from St Mary’s Little Lambs joined together to celebrate Chinese New Year. As it is the year of the monkey, there were a number of monkey themed crafts for pupils to carry out. The session finished with a traditional dragon dance!
Threads of Easter and A Donkey’s Tale
As part of the preparation for Holy Week, pupils from each class attended sessions help at the Abbey Education Centre.
