Easter Hunt
All the pupils at St Mary’s took part in a special Easter hunt around Buckfast Abbey, organised and led by the Abbey’s Education department. Pupils enjoyed searching for clues and finding out about the Easter Story.
Crib Blessings 2014
Pupils were invited to each of the parish churches at Buckfastleigh, South Brent and Ashburton to lead crib services. This year, the art club had prepared backgrounds to each crib based on a famous artist and some of our musicians led the carol singing.
Advent
This year each class created their own Advent displays, to mark the time in the church calendar to prepare for the birth of Jesus. Anti-Bullying Week
Pupils in Burrator Class helped to raise awareness of National Anti-bullying Week at St Mary’s. Pupils designed some imaginative posters reminding pupils about some key anti-bullying messages and all pupils were asked to contribute to writing a Children’s Anti-Bullying Policy. Harvest Mass
The whole school community were invited to attend a Harvest Mass and then to join together in the school hall for refreshments and to purchase food, the majority of which had been made by pupils in each of the classes. Hall Blessing and Open Day
To celebrate the completion of St Mary’s new school hall, pupils, parents and the wider community were invited to a blessing of the new building by Abbot David Charlesworth. Global Learning Programme
St Mary’s has committed to take part in the Global Learning Programme (GLP) in collaboration with a group of local schools. Stations of the Cross
Year 6 pupils worked with a volunteer in the school, Miss Kate McMillan, to create some beautiful stained glass pictures depicting the Stations of the Cross. These formed the focal point for the Stations of the Cross liturgy, led by Year 6. The whole school community was invited to attend this service.
Lent
This year each class created a special Lenten display within their classroom, using a range of objects and pictures on each focal point to remind them of the events of Holy Week.
