Fairtrade Fortnight
To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, pupils organised a Fairtrade Sale selling fairtrade snacks and using fairtrade products to bake cakes.
Easter Bonnet Parade
Our pupils took part in the annual Easter Bonnet parade. Everyone had the chance to design and make their own Easter hat (or bonnet) which were shown in our assembly. Buckfast Abbey Easter Workshops
Each of the classes visited the Education Centre at Buckfast Abbey to take in Easter workshops. The older pupils had an Easter Egg hunt around the Abbey whilst Meldon class listened to the Easter story.
Mental Health Ambassadors
Working with Devon’s Early Help for Metal Health (EH4MH) Team, Year 5 pupils have been with Melody from EH4MH to train to become Mental Health Ambassadors. REConnect
During our ‘It’s OK to be different week’, pupils in Burrator Class were invited to the ‘REConnect’ event at Buckfast Abbey’s Education Centre. It is an annual event which gives pupils from local schools the chance to reflect on the bigger questions in life, using a range of different thought-provoking stations.
Advent
In preparation for Advent, pupils created classroom displays with advent wreaths. In our school foyer we had a ‘Kindness Tree’ encouraging people to do one kind thing each day in the lead up to Christmas. Some of our classrooms had their own ‘kindness calendars’ too.
Meldon Nativity
This year our EYFS class, Meldon, performed a nativity for the school and parents/ carers. All of the children worked very hard to prepare for the performance and were brave to perform in front of so many people. Remembrance Day
Two of our pupils represented St Mary’s Catholic Primary School at the Remembrance Day service in Buckfastleigh by laying a wreath on the war memorial as part of the service.
Harvest
We celebrated our Harvest Mass again this year and lots of parents/ carers attended. Each class also made food which was sold after school to sell after school to raise money for CAFOD.
Choristers
This year the school is working with the music department at Buckfast Abbey to offer the opportunity for pupils to become Choristers as part of the Buckfast Abbey choir. The children have choir practices before school as well as an after school practice and then sing in the Abbey on a Sunday.
