Anti-Bullying Week

Brother Bear trip

Purple4Polio
St Mary’s School Council have been working with the local Rotary Club, to help to support their Purple4Polio appeal. Our School Council have planted purple crocus bulbs in the grounds of Buckfast Abbey to help raise awareness of polio, a disease which Rotary Club International are trying to eradicate from all countries.
Crib Blessings
Pupils from each class have participated in crib blessings this year. Cribs in each of our parish churches included sheep and angels, which had been made by the children in school and Meldon Class took part in their own craft session, linked to the nativity story. 125th Anniversary
St Mary’s has celebrated its 125th anniversary by having a Victorian Day. On 4 December 1893, St Mary’s opened its doors to pupils for the first time and at that point had just 22 children on roll. Education Sunday- Blessed Sacrament Procession
Pupils from St Mary’s took part in a special procession at Buckfast Abbey, on Education Sunday, to mark ‘Adoremus: National Eucharistic Pilgrimage & Congress’ which took place in Leeds. Leavers’ Mass
In line with tradition, Year 6 leavers led the end of year Mass for the whole school community. Afterwards, there was a special cake for the pupils to enjoy.
Saints’ Day Prayer Space
St Mary’s pupils took part in a special Prayer Space, focussing on ‘Saints’. The day took place close during the same week as the Feast Day of St Benedict, who is of particular importance to the school as he was the founder of Benedictine monasteries and Buckfast Abbey is a Benedictine monastery.
First Holy Communion
Six pupils from St Mary’s have spent the past few months preparing for their First Holy Communion. Each week after school, there have been special classes which the children have attended to learn more about their faith. The Three Trees
The school choir at St Mary’s have been practising over the past few months to present ‘The Three Trees’, which is based on the Easter story. After lots of lunchtime and after school rehearsals, they presented the musical piece to the whole school community.
