Pupils have worked with a gymnastics coach, either during PE lessons or as part of an after school in a club. During the sessions, pupils learnt how to jump and land correctly, different ways of rolling and also creating shapes using their bodies in a number of different ways.
Pupils in Key Stage Two have been practising their hockey skills with our sports coach. The pupils put these skills to good use in their intra school tournament, held at the end of half term.
Pupils took part again in some New Age Kurling sessions in our school hall. They learnt about the sport and how it is based on the original curling game, but adapted so that it can be played indoors on any smooth, flat surface, such as a sports hall, rather than on ice.
As part of our ‘It’s OK to be different week’, based on the book of the same title by Todd Parr, pupils took part in some accessible sports including Sitting Volleyball.
Marina, from a local dance school, came into school to work with each class and prepare a dance based around their topics for this term. This term Saints South West have been working with all of the children on developing their football skills. To celebrate the learning that had taken place, an inter-house football tournament was held for all of the children.
Our annual sports day was held for all pupils at St Mary’s. The morning was taken up with athletic style activities, which were designed and organised by Burrator Class. All pupils in Fernworthy Class have taken part in tag rugby sessions run by Exeter Chiefs.
Pupils in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 were invited to take part in a karate workshop, run by Karate Academy, a local karate club.
Year 5 and 6 pupils have taken part in Bikeability Level 1 and 2 again this year to learn a bit more about cycling and how to stay safe on the road.
