Martial Arts
Pupils across the school took part in a day of martial arts, led by an instruction from the Matt Fiddes Martial Arts School. Children learnt about this martial arts form which incorporates a combination of techniques and principles from Karate, Kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do, Ju Jitsu, martial arts weapons and Kung Fu.
Catholic Schools’ Football Tournament
Two teams from St Mary’s attended the football tournaments held on consecutive days at St Margaret Clitherow Catholic Primary School in Brixham. Both the Year 3/4 and Year 6 teams played exceptionally well and came 3rd place out of all of the teams playing in the tournament.
Gymnastics sessions
Pupils in Meldon and Venford classes have been developing their gymnastic techniques and learning to use a range of equipment, under the guidance of a specialist coach from Ivybridge Community College.
Superheroes Dance
Venford class have been creating their own dance based on the topic ‘Superheroes’ with some help from Marina.
Exeter Chiefs Rugby Festival
Following their rugby sessions led by coaches from Exeter Chiefs, pupils from Fernworthy Class took part in a tournament at Teignmouth Rugby Club along with several other local primary schools.
Exeter Chiefs
Pupils in Fernworthy class had the opportunity to work with coaches from Exeter Chiefs for several weeks to learn and improve their skills in Tag Rugby.
Zorbing Club
Pupils have been taking part in after school ‘zorbing’ sessions at St Mary’s. The sport of ‘zorbing’ involves rolling inside an inflatable transparent orb. As you can imagine, the children had great fun challenging each other during zorbing matches in the hall.
Fencing Club
Pupils at St Mary’s have taken part in Fencing sessions with sports coach Alex. Pupils had the opportunity to practise the skills in school and attend an after school sports club too.
Foundation Stage Sports Festival
Reception pupils were invited to a special sports event at South Dartmoor Community College along with other pupils from local schools. Children participated in a number of sporting activities, focussing on developing key skills such as catching, throwing, running and jumping.
Bikeability Scheme 2016
Children in Year 5 and Year 6 took part in essential bike safety sessions this year, developing their awareness of road safety. Pupils took part in four sessions with instruction Gideon Hodder and achieved the Bikeability Level 1 and Level 2 Award.
