Sports Day 2016
After two unsuccessful attempts, our annual sports day finally took place at the end of term on a gloriously hot summer’s day. Pupils took part in a number of traditional races including relay, sprint and sack races. For the second year running, Green or Teign House took the winning trophy – congratulations again this year!
Raft Building at Grenville House
Pupils in Year 5 and 6 had to work effectively as a team to construct a raft using barrels, planks and rope. Kayaking in Brixham
Pupils in Burrator Class learnt how to kayak in Brixham. After some basic tuition on ‘dry land’, pupils were given their own kayak and invited to take part in a number of water based games in Brixham’s inner harbour, which were designed to improve their paddling skills.
Dartmoor 3 Ball Festival
Pupils from Fernworthy Class, together with 300 other children from local schools attended the Dartmoor 3 Ball Festival at South Dartmoor College. Catholic Schools’ Football Tournament
On a cold, wet and windy day four football teams from St Mary’s took part in the Catholic Schools’ Football Tournament at St Margaret Clitherow Primary School in Brixham. Penguin Dance
Pupils in Venford class took part in a dance festival at Buckfastleigh, along with lots of other local primary schools in the South Dartmoor Sports Partnership. Badminton
Fernworthy and Burrator class have taken part in badminton sessions with Zoe Hills from the South Dartmoor Sports Partnership this academic year, building on the skills that they learnt last year. The sessions have been so popular with the children that they have requested that the school buy badminton equipment to use throughout the year.
Alice in Wonderland
Pupils in Burrator worked with Marina Saldanha, local dance teacher, to help create a dance based around Alice in Wonderland for the Body Language Dance festival at South Dartmoor Community College. Buddy and Peer Mediator Training
Along with pupils from a number of other primary schools locally, three of our lunchtime ‘buddies’ and ‘peer mediators’ attended training at Stover School to offer support and fresh ideas in their lunchtime roles. BMX Team
Sixteen pupils attended the BMX sessions at Decoy skate park, in conjunction with the South Dartmoor Sports Partnership. Justin Knox , the instructor who led the six sessions with pupils aged between 6 and 11 years old, helped to develop the chidren’s skills and confidence using a BMX bike.
