Venford Class

To encourage reading in Meldon and Venford Classes, St Mary’s have run the RED TED scheme in school – Read Every Day, Talk Every Day.  Each time a child reads with an adult and it is signed in their reading record book, they earn points towards prizes which are then presented in our Achievement Assembly each week.  Prizes range from stickers, pencils and keyrings up to a special Teddy Bear’s Picnic Lunch!

Venford's Learning Afternoon

To celebrate the end of their ‘Food Glorious Food’ topic, pupils in Venford invited parents/ carers into class for a learning afternoon, to look at the work that has been completed during the topic.  Everyone shared the performance of ‘The Papaya That Could Speak’ which the class had learnt as part of their Talk for Writing unit of work.

As part of their topic about Dragons, pupils in Venford Class constructed their own pneumatic systems to create their own dragons.  The children also wrote some instructions to explain to others how they worked.  Some people also performed a Chinese New Year Dragon dance!

Carrot harvest in Venford

Pupils in Venford Class harvested a bumper crop of carrots this year, which they used to make carrot cakes.

Pennywell Farm Christmas Nativity

Pupils from Meldon and Venford Class were treated to a special trip to Pennywell Farm and got to join in their own nativity play with real animals.  Most of the children dressed up in costumes and acted out the Christmas Story in a barn.  Afterwards they had a drink and biscuit and also went to visit Father Christmas. Many thanks to FOSMs (Friends of St Mary’s) Fundraising committee that subsidised the cost of this trip.
