Staff and pupils at St Mary’s were thrilled to find out that they had won an award, following their entry in the CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) ‘Our Outdoors’ competition 2016.  The award was given for ‘Most improved and innovative outdoor location’ as recognition for the work carried out by pupils in their school woodland area.  Improvements to the area included the addition of a mud kitchen, wildlife habitats and a firepit – all ideas generated by the pupils who also helped to design and build their chosen woodland features.

Judges came to school to present the award, which was received by some of the School Prefects and Alison Gagg, from the Buckfast Abbey Education Centre who supported the school with this project and their outdoor education provision.
